Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, has received approval from the State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara GSSRS, to conduct its Convocation Ceremony for the year 2024. The Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, announced this during the statutory Senate Meeting on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the Postgraduate Hall of the university.
The Convocation Ceremony is scheduled for April 26th, focusing on undergraduates, while April 27th is dedicated to Postgraduate Students. Professor Onuchuku expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor for reconstituting the Governing Council with Chief (Barrister) Adokiye Amiesimaka CON, DSSRS, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
The Governor, through the Secretary to the State Government Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, appointed six others to the Governing Council. This includes Dr Iboh Okidim, Professor Jason Osai, Professor Ijeoma F.V. Akpu, Dr Akabue Godson Ugochukwu, Mrs Mmeme Gogo-Adiari, and Hon. Dominic Sata as Members.
In light of these appointments, the Chairman of Senate called for the election of four Senate Members to join the eleventh Governing Council. The elected representatives are:
1. Professor Isaac Ogundu, Head of Ndele Campus and Dean Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education.
2. Professor Beatrice Awortu, Director General Studies Unit and of the Department of History and Diplomatic Studies.
3. Professor Ozioma Ekpete, Dean, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences.
4. Professor Livinus Ogbonda, Dean, Faculty of Education.
Elections for representatives for Congregation, Convocation, and Alumni on the Council will take place on a later date. Additionally, Professor Kingsley Gbeke Kalagbor was introduced as the new Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences. The Senate also approved Saturday, March 16th, 2024, as the Matriculation date for fresh students.
